8 Simple Strategies For SEO To Boost Your Website's Traffic

Wondering how to improve your website’s performance? Here are 8 simple and cost-effective strategies for SEO to boost your website’s traffic.

During the early stages of creating my websites, I was pretty clueless about what I needed to do to grow my site and audience base. But as time progressed and I did more research I came across some SEO strategies that have been extremely helpful.

I decided to take these newly learned SEO strategies and write this article in order to share them with people who are in the same situation I was in.

SEO can do wonders for your business, allowing you to generate the highest revenue possible. All it takes is proper planning and efficiently implementing some SEO strategies that are not difficult to follow.

Table of Contents

#1 Keyword Research

Keyword Research

Keyword research is a major step in any SEO strategy. It’s all about understanding your target audience and the types of words and phrases they use to search for what they want.

Typical keyword research tools showcase common metrics such as search volume, keyword difficulty, cost per click (CPC) for specific keywords, and industry trends. With it, you are able to take a look into the minds of potential customers and create content that satisfies their needs so they will want to read and share your work.

You can also use keyword research to clearly see the ebbs and flow of the industry you are in and make proactive decisions to stay ahead of the pack. Say that you are in the fitness industry, you used Google Trends and noticed that keywords related to marathons are becoming increasingly popular over time. You can then create a series of content around marathons to take advantage of the topic’s potential before competitors flock to it.

With all this said, you would think that most businesses would take advantage of keyword research. But that may not be the case, many businesses produce content based on what they think customers want. It’s a case of “You don’t know what you want, I do. ”, and many businesses suffer on search engine result pages (SERPs) because of it.

The best thing you can do for your website and business is to create a list of keywords relevant to your industry. It will save you a lot of time and significantly improve your content writing process.

#2 Create Content That Satisfies Search Intent

Search Intent

Using relevant keywords is one thing but you also must ensure that your content matches search or user intent. To put it simply, search intent is the main goal a user has in mind when they are making a query in search engines.

For instance, if you search for “best blenders”, you expect to find information on blenders and not on spoons. Information on spoons would not match your search intent, and you would most likely leave that website and look for another with content that has what you want. This is exactly why having content that satisfies search intent is important.

Google’s number 1 priority is to ensure that user intent is met. It is so important that it was included in Google’s 2021 Search Quality Raters Guidelines

If you are not able to create content that meets user intent then your ranking will certainly plummet to the bottom of the SERP.

Along with putting together a list of keywords, you must look into the search intent of those keywords. Ensuring that you have a clear idea of what type of content is expected from you. You can generally categorize search intent into informational, navigational, commercial, and transactional

Searching for “best blenders” is primarily commercial, phrases like “how do blenders work” would be informational, “buyblender.com” would be navigational, and “buy blenders online” would be transactional.

#3 Optimize Site Speed

Page speed

In the digital marketing world, having a slow website is comparable to having the plague.

The constant lagging will result in a poor user experience causing visitors to leave or bounce off your site as soon as they visit it. Sadly, websites with high bounce rates and short user sessions will not perform well.

Can you guess how Google will respond?

They will put your website in the lowest ranking possible.

Additionally, the internet is a crowded space. With so many sites competing for attention, it’s essential to have an attractive, fast, and easy-to-navigate website in order for users to make their purchasing decisions without any hassle or long wait time. Slow websites run counter to this and may cost you valuable conversions.

If you find yourself in this unfortunate position, then fret not. There are simple solutions to fix it.

Firstly, Google’s Pagespeed Insights is the best way for you to monitor your site speed and get all the necessary suggestions to improve it. Some actionable steps you can take to improve your page speed include caching, compressing your site files, and removing unnecessary scripts.

If you are using WordPress then WpRocket is a great plugin to automatically do all this for you. I have personally used it for my own sites and instantly saw results.

#4 Make Website Mobile Friendly

Mobile Friendly

Mobile-friendly websites are now a necessity for every business, especially since Google’s Mobile-First Indexing policy. Now Google’s crawl bots (spiders) will first crawl and index the mobile version of your website before the desktop version. Your organic search rankings will now be significantly boosted if your site is mobile-friendly.

Therefore, it is no longer an option to have a website that isn’t optimized for mobile devices.

Today having a smartphone is more common than having a personal computer, also, over 55% of internet traffic is from mobile devices. Not only that, Business Insider predicted that by the end of 2020 mobile e-commerce (m-commerce) sales would represent 45% of the total US e-commerce market. We are at the end of 2021 so I can only imagine how this has boomed.

With all that said, having a website that is not mobile-friendly will now significantly put you at a disadvantage.

Optimizing your website for mobile devices (called responsive web design) is not as complex as you might imagine. If you are using WordPress then you only need to make a few tweaks since this content management system (CMS) already has built-in mobile configurations.

Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test is the best resource to use to determine if your site is mobile-friendly or not. All that’s needed is to enter your URL and select run test.

#5 Increase Social Media Presence

Social Media

Social media is a great way to get your website’s content noticed by a wider audience. Especially if you are just getting started and you have not developed much traction from search engines as yet.

In addition to having high-quality content and a well-designed site you also need to be proactive and use different social media channels to promote your website. Having your content get a lot of social shares would add to the credibility of your website.

This social credibility can then be leveraged in the form of domain authority and in turn lead to higher rankings on the SERP.

Increasing your social media presence does not just mean sharing posts on conventional platforms like Facebook (Meta), Twitter, and Pinterest where any random person can post whatever they want. You can also focus on more authoritative platforms that expect high-quality and accurate content, like Quora and SlideShare.

#6 Consistently Create and Update Content

Content Creation

This is a pretty straightforward SEO strategy.

Content creation is by far one of the most important aspects of operating a website. If you have a blog then it’s what mainly attracts visitors to your site, it’s the gold in your gold mine.

Content can mean anything from blog posts to videos, images, or other creative material that you use to engage your visitors. Regularly creating and updating content keeps a website fresh and interesting to the visitor, who will be more likely to stay on the site.

Updating content should never be passed over, especially for topics that are time-sensitive. Can you imagine how damaging it could be to run a traveling blog that only has content published from 2019?

The content on your site will prove to search engines and to your audience that you can provide helpful information to solve problems and improve lives in one way or another.

Additionally, it is important to keep in mind the length of your content. According to Backlinko, the average word count for the top-ranking pages of 11.8 million Google search results was 1,447 words. This is a clear indication that visitors and search engines favor long-form content that gives in-depth insights into a topic.

#7 Start Email Marketing

Email Marketing min

Email marketing is one of the most cost-effective and personal forms of marketing you can use to boost your outreach. It is a direct approach to customers that builds a personal relationship and allows them to connect to your brand.

Email marketing is a powerful tool that can be used for many different types of marketing strategies such as inbound, account-based, and content marketing. Unlike other types of marketing, it is very engaging and customizable.

It is a great way to attract prospective customers/readers and maintain a presence in the minds of existing ones. A simple email blast that links to your website can cause a surge in traffic which can then be replicated with a weekly newsletter.

Setting up an email marketing campaign can be relatively simple. If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person then you can manually create an email template and send it off to your email list. You can also take the automation route and use one of the many email marketing tools available like Hubspot and Mailchimp.

Regardless of which method you choose, you are sure to get a good return on investment (ROI). According to Marketing Insider Group, businesses can earn $44 for every dollar spent on email marketing

Some simple ways to build an email list include creating call-to-actions (CTAs) on landing pages and blog posts or creating pop-ups for each page.

#8 Do Competitor Research

Competitor Research

You can gain a lifetime of experience and knowledge from competitor research. It is one of the simplest strategies for SEO and most people do not even realize when they are doing it.

Competitor research is an important digital marketing tactic for anyone looking to improve their online presence. One of the best ways to do this is by learning about the keywords your competitors are using, the type of content they publish, and how effective it is.

This knowledge can be used to help make strategic decisions about the types of content to create, the target audience to reach, and how to optimize pages to make them more visible and appealing.

You can ultimately improve your website’s standing on SERPs by doing half the work (it will still be a lot of work though).

What makes things even better is that finding information on your competitors is easier than ever before, with literally hundreds of tools at your disposal. Firstly, you could simply do a Google search and bring up all the top contenders for your niche and spy on them.

To take it even further, you can use the competitor analysis features for SEO tools such as Ubersuggest and Ahrefs for more detailed information.

In Conclusion

That’s all the information I have to share for now. Building a successful website can be somewhat difficult but it is far from being rocket science.

By implementing these simple strategies for SEO you will be able to notice some improvement in your website’s performance over time. Just keep in mind that these are not quick fixes or a one time deal, becoming successful in this business requires consistent work

It can be extremely based on your niches so it’s a must to stay on top of your game.
